A woman was detained under the Mental Health Act during an incident which saw a section of the A4174 near Warmley closed for more than three hours.

The dual carriageway was closed in both directions between the Station Road Link / Carsons Road Link roundabout at Siston Common and the A420 roundabout for Warmley last night (April 19).

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson told BristolWorld that officers shut the section between 9.30pm and 12.40am ‘due to a concern for welfare incident’.

They added: “It involved a woman who was ultimately detained under the Mental Health Act.”

The closure was reported locally on social media groups with some members worried it was another serious crash. Just two days before a 16-year-old boy was killed in a collision on the ring road a short distance away.

The boy was on a moped which collided with a Ford Fiesta at the A4174 Wraxall Road roundabout in Warmley. A 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released under investigation.
