Section of busy Bristol road to close from this week for flood prevention works - here's what you need to know
A major section of Bristol road will be closed this week as flood prevention works commence. Here's what you need to know about the timings and impact.
The lower part of Whiteladies Road is due to be fully closed from the Tyndall’s Park Road/St Paul’s Junction and the junction with Queens Road from February 11 to 18.
The closure forms part of Bristol City Council’s ongoing project to prevent water pooling and make the area more accessible for pedestrians and safer for cyclists.
During the closure, a drainage pipe will be installed across the road and a catchpit, which is an underground chamber that collects leaves, silts and debris to help keep the new drainage system clear.
Access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists on the west side pavement throughout the works.
Once the drainage works are completed, the road southbound will be reopened, but the northbound closure and diversion will continue to be in place.
Some of the final works in the project will be to resurface the road, which will mean overnight road closures in the spring.

Road diversions during closure
- If driving southbound, the diversion is via St Paul’s Road and Queens Road
- If driving northbound, the diversion is via Queens Road and St Paul’s Road
Access to drive to and from properties along the closure will be maintained at all times but there may be times when it is restricted or temporarily delayed.
For properties north of building 15, including 15, access will be from the St Paul’s junction end of the closure.
For properties south of building 15, access will vary as the works progress.
