Bristol City fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to Championship winners Burnley in their final home game of the season at Ashton Gate.

Jay Rodriguez’s goal just minutes after Tommy Conway ensured a final away win of the campaign for the Clarets after Manuel Benson had initially given the Clarets the lead.

Manuel Benson opened the scoring with a moment of brilliance was the difference as the Belgian curled his edge-of-the-box shot into the top corner to beat Max O’Leary.

The Robins survived an onslaught after Benson’s goal, and with three changes and a change of shape from Nigel Pearson, they got back on level terms through Conway. Andi Weimann held the ball up and played it through to the Scotland Under-21 international to strike home.

Celebrations only lasted a minute though as Alex Scott’s back-pass put City in to danger, and Rodriguez fully profited from it by firing past O’Leary.

Here’s how the Bristol City players fared as the Robins fans saw their players for the last time this campaign:

Max O’Leary - 6

O’Leary had a very busy today with Burnley peppering his goal. He made a good few saves, but perhaps could have done better with Rodriguez’ effort.

George Tanner (subbed off, 56) - 6

Burnley were a threat from Tanner’s flank, with numerous crosses and shots coming from his side.

Zak Vyner - 6

A few blocks in the first-half, but really the Burnley strikers made it difficult.

Kal Naismith - 6

Naismith looked neat in the first half, and tried to drive his team forward but in the second, was loose wit his passing.

Cameron Pring - 6

Manuel Benson’s brilliant goal came from Pring’s side, but really it was a moment of brilliance.

Matty James - 6

Burnley’s midfielders did well, and created chances through the middle and on the flanks.

Andy King (subbed off, 56) - 6

Started the game well and got in to some attacking areas. Benson’s goal though saw Burnley control the game from there.

Harry Cornick (subbed off, 56) - 6

Pressed the Burnley defence and almost forced some errors. He had City’s best chance in the half but couldn’t get it on target. He couldn’t get much more out of the game though.

Alex Scott (subbed off, 69) - 5

Tough one to take… A sloppy back pass proved to be a costly error, as it played in Rodriguez, and gave Burnley the lead. Burnley did well to nullify the threat of the star boy.

Sam Bell - 6

A few moments in the first-half but Burnley’s full-backs did enough to cope with his threat.

Tommy Conway - 7

A frustrating first-half for Conway, who had only a few touches. He took his goal well with a composed finish, and is now the top scorer for the season.

Joe Williams (subbed on, 56) - 6

His introduction saw a change in shape and it did bring a reward with a goal. Burnley did control the centre of the park though.

Mark Sykes (subbed on, 56) - 6

Brought on for Tanner and played at wing-back, so he could be a more attacking option than Tanner.

Andi Weimann (subbed on, 56) - 7

Immediate impact. The Austrian came on and got an assist after supplying Conway. He’s given Pearson food for thought next week after a goal and assist after coming off the bench in recent games.

Nahki Wells (subbed on, 69) - 6
