Han-Noah Massengo's future lies away from Bristol City, but just as to where he will end up remains uncertain.

His contract expires on Saturday, July 1, and from then he will be a free agent, The 21-year-old was offered a new contract by the Robins last year, but talks went cold, and he fell out-of-favour under Nigel Pearson, because of his lack of commitment to a new deal. Massengo finished the final few months of his contract on loan back in his native France, but suffered relegation to Ligue 2 with Auxerre.

During his time at Ashton Gate, he was linked with several moves away, but no clubs came in with a serious transfer bid, and for the first few months of the 2022/23 campaign, he was in-and-out of the side, and made to play for the Under-21's. Despite his lack of football this season, there appears to be several clubs chasing his signature, with City holding a slight interest as to where he ends up.

Real Betis however has now emerged as a destination, after RMC Sport listed the La Liga club are interested, along with Bundesliga outfits Freiburg and Wolfsburg. Both Betis and Freiburg will be playing in the 2023/24 Europa League next season, which could offer Massengo the chance to play European football again after playing in the Champions League as a teenager for Monaco. Massengo's former club Monaco are also said to be keen on signing him, but they finished outside of the European places this season.

Newly promoted Burnley would be the ideal destination for City, as they would receive more compensation, as per the rules of the FA. Their contract offer to Massengo represented an opportunity to recoup some of the money they paid for him in 2019, but if he goes abroad, then the money will be less than what they'd receive should he favour staying in England. The Clarets hold a 'strong interest' in Massengo, and so far initial discussions are said to have taken place, but no concrete offer has been made by one of the newest Premier League teams.
