Bristol City will be heading into the third weekend of the Championship season desperate to improve on their disappointing start.

The Robins have lost both of their first two fixtures, most recently losing to Sunderland at home, though they have since bounced back with a Carabao Cup win over Coventry City.

It was a disappointing last campaign for City, and they will be desperate to avoid that fate again. While their season is not going to be defined in August, a poor start is never going to help.

An away clash with Wigan Athletic awaits them this weekend, and as the build-up for that one continues, we have rounded up all the news and transfer rumours concerning City and their Championship rivals.

Robins told where to improve

The Robins have been told the key area they need to address heading into this weekend’s clash with Wigan.

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton said when speaking about the upcoming fixture: “Wigan seem to be missing a cutting edge at the moment, having scored just one goal in three games to date.

“Leam Richardson will be counting down the days until Charlie Wyke returns to action, following a cardiac arrest in November, and by the sounds of things, that moment might not be too far away.

“On Saturday, for the second time in as many games, Bristol City took the lead in a game, only to end up on the losing side.

“Nigel Pearson was frustrated when he spoke to the media afterwards and admitted the Robins’ defensive frailty is a problem that needs to be solved. I don’t think they’ll keep a clean sheet here but they may collect a point.”

Wigan sign Fletcher

Ahead of the clash with City, Wigan appear to have struck an agreement.

According to Football Insider, Wigan have agreed a loan deal with Watford for the signing of Ashley Fletcher.

Fletcher is set to arrive on a season-long loan, and the medical is expected to take place on Friday.

It’s unclear whether Fletcher will be available to face the Robins.

Ikpeazu spent a spell on loan with Cardiff City last season but was not signed permanently by the Bluebirds.

He now looks set to join Turkish outfit Konyaspor, with Sky Sports Transfer Centre claiming a deal worth £1million has been reached.
