Bristol City’s predicted line-up for Championship clash at Wigan Athletic

Bristol City come into the game fresh off a 4-1 win over Coventry City in the Carabao Cup which was played at the changed venue of the Pirelli Stadium.

The Robins’ game on Wednesday has meant that they have had fewer time to prepare than their opponents who fell to a 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood Town.

City are chasing their first league win of the season having lost to both Hull City and Sunderland in their opening two matches, despite going in front.

GK: Daniel Bentley

There’s still no sign of Stefan Bajic making the match-day squad whilst the skipper was preferred over Max O’Leary on Tuesday, so he should play again.

RCB: Zak Vyner

A few laid the blame at Vyner for Ellis Simms’ second goal last Saturday but the defender has two assists this season, despite being defensively minded.

CB: Kal Naismith

Had a difficult time against Sunderland and was caught in possession for Sunderland’s first. After getting the scoring up and running on Wednesday, he will hope to put that behind him.

Naismith used to play for Wigan and may know a few members of their squad, whilst working closely with their manager Leam Richardson at three teams.

LCB: Rob Atkinson

The centre-back hasn’t really put a foot wrong at the moment, despite the defensive issues so far. He’s neither stood out nor made any errors. Atkinson has done well to cement his place in the team.

LWB: Jay Dasilva

Cameron Pring started on Tuesday but Pearson said he had to earn his spot in the starting XI.

Dasilva should continue but Pring can use the Carabao Cup as an opportunity to push for  a start.

CM: Andy King

In the absence of Matty James, we may see a more conservative midfield away from home. It was thought that a defensive midfielder would be a priority in the transfer market but instead it’s a right sided centre-back.

Han-Noah Massengo got an assist for Conway’s goal in midweek but King is a bit more experienced and City will have to be defensively strong on their travels.

CM: Joe Williams

No Williams in midweek as Pearson still tries to manage his load by affording him a rest.

Williams was able to turn out 38 times for the opposition who will know full well what he can offer.

RWB: Kane Wilson

Mark Sykes’ hasn’t performed too badly in the games that he’s played in but starting Wilson from the off should be considered here.

CAM: Alex Scott

Scott played a cameo appearance against Coventry which was a much-needed break after a busy summer with England’s Under-19’s.

The tricky teenager started brightly against Sunderland but lost his way a little bit as they sussed him out.

ST: Chris Martin

City’s reliable centre-forward is expected to come back in for Nahki Wells. He got off the mark last week but should have two goals to his name after missing a glorious chance.

ST: Andreas Weimann

Weimann saw himself move back into the attacking midfield role, supporting Tommy Conway and Wells on Wednesday evening.

Wells gave a good account of himself whilst Conway’s two-goals would see him pushing hard for a start.

Weimann got a goal however and I can see minimal changes to the side, despite the success of Wednesday.
