A fish bar owner rushed out to help a woman injured in a crash in the centre of Knowle West.
The woman, aged 65, was knocked to the floor in the middle of the road next to Best One in Melvin Square at around 11am this morning (May 23).
Among those in the area was Mustafa Ahmadzai who was opening Nemo’s Fish Bar very close to the scene.
He told Bristol World: “I heard the crash and saw the woman on the floor in the middle of the road. I ran out with another person and we saw she was bleeding from the back of her head.
“I stopped the bleeding with my hand and luckily a community transport van was nearby to come quickly and take over before the ambulance service arrived.
“The police then came and closed off the whole area.”
He added: “I just wanted to help - it looked serious but she was talking as the ambulance took her away.”
Bristol World contacted Avon and Somerset Police for comment on the incident, which resulted in the whole of Melvin Square, including the shops, cordoned off. ~A spokespersons aid: “At just before 11am today (Tuesday 23 May), we were called by the ambulance service to attend a collision in Melvin Square, Bristol, involving a lorry and a pedestrian.
“The pedestrian, a woman, has been taken to hospital for treatment. Her condition is not believed to be life-threatening.”
The cordon was lifted at around 12.30pm.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 10.51hrs to an incident in the Bristol area. A double-crew land ambulance was sent, and one individual was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary.”
