Two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were arrested following a public order incident involving several young people in South Bristol on Thursday (October 27).

A police helicopter was dispatched to support officers on the ground during the incident. A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of the theft of a motorcycle and a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and racially aggravated public order offences.

A Section 35 dispersal notice, which required people to leave the area, was put in place and the incident was brought to a quick and safe conclusion. The events took place on Leinster Avenue, in Knowle. A nearby told Bristol World they had heard and seen the helicopter hovering above the area for “around 30 minutes”.

The all-inclusive cost of operating the helicopter is believed to be around £1700 per hour, this includes everything such as fuel, staff, and insurance.

Both have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
