Check out to see if your Bristol pub makes our version of the game board
Bristol is about to get a new version of Monopoly to celebrate the 650th anniversary of the city - and the game-makers are asking people to nominate landmarks they think should feature in the game, to be released in November.
But we had a better idea. What if the Monopoly instead featured only pubs in Bristol? Which ones reflect the luxury and taste of a blue Mayfair card. And which ones offer booze at a bargain to justify a brown Old Kent Road card.
Using our knowledge of pubs in the city, and the dozens of pub reviews we’ve published, we decided to have some fun and create a Monopoly board with only pubs. It must be said that this doesn’t define how good a pub is, or provide a rating of its offering - and some of these might be currently closed, such is the difficult time facing pubs right now.

9. The Lodekka, Brislington - Northumberland Avenue
A Hungry Horse pub on Tramway Road, just off Bath Road, The Lodekka’s unusual name refers to a type of ‘low decker’ bus. Built by Bristol Commercial Vehicles, it was a step-free, low-height double decker and it went on to inspire the design of the famous red London bus. It’s menu features deals like Steak Monday where you can get a mini mixed grill from £8.
10. King William IV in Staple Hill - Bow Street
A pub appealing more to the committed drinkers and football fans, this huge pub serves up great ales plus clingfilm-wrapped rolls starting at £1.50. They even serve a ‘special’ roll with pork and stuffing. At £2.50, it’s easily the cheapest Sunday lunch offer in Bristol.
11. Beehive, Henleaze - Marlborough Street
A popular pub for locals, the recently refurbished pub features a good beer garden and plenty of screens for watching sport. As for the food, it’s £14.50 for a cod and chips.
12. The Inn on the Green - Vine Street
A cosy, country-style pub near to the top of Gloucester Road with real ales and an atmospheric beer garden. Get three small plates for £15 at lunchtimes.
