The 9 places in Bristol you’ll most likely hear a ‘proper’ Bristolian accent
We asked readers and they didn’t let us down
It’s our worst kept secret. Bristol is one of the best places to live in the UK, and it’s why thousands have come to live here over the past decade.
This means that our city is continually evolving with new people, new culture and new sounds. But has the ‘proper’ Bristolian accent survived the change?
We all grew up in school hearing it, we saw it on popular culture Vicky Pollard on Little Britain - but it’d be hard to argue we’re not hearing it less.
So where in Bris-tawe can you still here our city’s slang and the placing of ‘l’ after any word which ends with a vowel? We asked you on our Facebook page - and the answers were great.
Here are nine places you can still hear the Bristolian accent in Bristol:

1. Knowle West
A tight-knit community south of the river, and a place where you’ll likely hear the Bristolian accent according to our readers. Here’s Sue Derrick, left, with other residents. We spoke to them earlier this year about the Filwood Broadway cinema.

2. On the bus
‘On the bus,’ says Dan Harris. ‘Love the accent of the announcer lady. Proper Bristolian.’ The voice on the Metrobus M1 route is Fran Edwards, who recorded the announcements while receptionist at First’s depot in Lawrence Hill.

3. Club @ 22
A Conservative club? That might surprise some, but Pete Abraham says the strongest accents can be found at the Grade II-listed Conservative Club on Keynsham’s High Street.

4. Bedminster
Barley Mow pub customers Mac and Steve are among those keeping up the Bristolian accent in Bedminster. The friendly pair will happily share their Bristolian slang, too. We spoke to them both at the pub last year.
