It’s our worst kept secret. Bristol is one of the best places to live in the UK, and it’s why thousands have come to live here over the past decade.
This means that our city is continually evolving with new people, new culture and new sounds. But has the ‘proper’ Bristolian accent survived the change?
We all grew up in school hearing it, we saw it on popular culture Vicky Pollard on Little Britain - but it’d be hard to argue we’re not hearing it less.
So where in Bris-tawe can you still here our city’s slang and the placing of ‘l’ after any word which ends with a vowel? We asked you on our Facebook page - and the answers were great.
Here are nine places you can still hear the Bristolian accent in Bristol:

5. Southmead
Southmead appears to have so far not been impacted by the sweeping tide of gentrification across the city. Here’s Jayne Bransome at The Treble Chance pub. She has lived in Southmead for most of her life and told us she loved the area because of the community spirit. | Alex ROss

6. Withywood and Hartcliffe
Two of the three major post-war council estates built in south Bristol, both Withywood and Hartcliffe are home to the strongest Bristolian accent according to several people on our Facebook page. There are now fewer pubs to hear them in, though, with the area impacted by closures. | Google

7. Asda
The city’s strongest accents can be heard while grocery shopping in Asda, according to Viv Hitchman and Zoie Kenkai who picked out the stores in Cribbs Causeway and Patchway. | Alex Ross

8. The Long Bar in Old Market
The legendary Long Bar is a popular place according to our reader surveys. It came out when we asked for the cheapest pubs in Bristol, and it’s where some of you think you’ll find the strongest accent too! | Bristol World
