Oldland Common fire: One person injured in house blaze near Sir Bernard Lovell Academy

One person was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a house near Sir Bernard Lovell Academy this morning - one of three fires in the area today (July 14).
Crews from Temple, Kingswood and Hicks Gate were called to the blaze at a semi-detached property in Cook Close at 10.03am. Thick smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around.

Hide AdCrews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Meanwhile, a casualty was take to hospital by a neighbour, an Avon and Fire Rescue spokesperson said.
They added: “Crews are remain in attendance at the scene conducting a fire investigation and clearing the area of smoke.”
The fire was the third crews were called out to this morning.
At around 8.30am, firefighters were called to a van on fire on the layby at the roundabout near Longwell Green retail park. The roundabout connects the A431 Bath Road and Marsham Way.

Hide AdCrews used two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire, which also impacted a telegraph pole.
The cause of the incident was determined to have been accidental, said the fire service spokesperson.
Luke Hawkins drove past the scene. He said: “I saw the smoke from far away - it was thick black smoke. . Then as I approached the roundabout there was a fire engine there tackling the flames.
“There was a small delay. When I came back there were long queues.”

Hide AdAlso this morning, there was a fire on the A4174 ringroad between the Hicks Gate roundabout at Keynsham and the Kingsfield roundabout.
It involed a vehicle which crews believe was set alight intentionally.
The blaze led to a partial closure of the road this morning.
