Arson attack sparks partial closure of the A4174 Bristol ring road

An arson attack triggered a partial closure of the A4174 Bristol ring road this morning.

Crews from Kingswood were called out to reports of a car on fire at 4.35am today (Thursday, July 14).

They found a car ‘well alight’ on the southbound carriageway, which was the shut off between the Kingsfield and Hicks Gate roundabouts while firefighters battled the blaze.

Crews used two high pressure hose reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish it.

They then used a further hose reel and road wash to clear the roadway before it reopened at 7.45am.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: “The incident was determined to have been caused by deliberate ignition.”

Avon and Somerset Police were also in attendance.
