The public is to have its say on a major regeneration project centred on Bristol Temple Meads which features railway station improvements, a new city destination with restaurants and bars and 10,000 new homes.

A new multi-storey car park on the other side of the River Avon and a small supermarket next to the station are also included in the Temple Quarter plans, which have gone out for consultation today.

And there is even a potential mass transit hub earmarked between the main station approach and Cattle Market Road which shows the continued intention by those behind the project - Bristol City Council, the West of England Combined Authority, Homes England and Network Rail - to keep the controversial scheme on the table.

The proposals have reached this stage after the Government issued almost £95m in funding in June last year. Work could start next year, and will be phased over the next 20 years.

Mayor Marvin Rees said: “We now have a clear and ambitious vision for delivering the affordable homes, new jobs and sustainable infrastructure the city needs to build a good pattern of life for residents here.

“The consultation is a chance for Bristolians to get their fingerprintson the framework and test the emerging principles for the regeneration of St Philip’s Marsh.”

A new eastern entrance would open out into the new University of Bristol Enterprise Campus. The existing northern entrance would be improved to lead out on to a new public space. While the main station approach would see more of the area pedestrianised with parking for only taxis and disabled motorists.

A new drop-off area for normal vehicles would be introduced off Temple Back East.
