M5 Gloucester traffic: Hour-long delay as crash blocks southbound motorway

Police stopped traffic on the M5 motorway in Gloucestershire this morning after a crash involving several vehicles. The M5 southbound was blocked between junctions 11A and 12 near Quedgeley because of the incident, reported by National Highways South West at around 10.30am.

Since then, one lane of the three has reopened and traffic has been allowed through - although motorists are being warned of a 60-minute delay on approach. Gloucestershire Police and highways teams are at the scene.

National Highways South West tweeted: “Please allow extra time for your journey and drive carefully due to the weather conditions.”

The crash comes during a Bristol today: Met Office weather forecast as warning remains in place">yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office over icy conditions after snowfall this morning. Over in Bristol there was a crash involving two vehicles in Stockwood this morning.

Council gritting teams have been out this morning treating all the major routes.
