A Greggs bakery in the city centre has been closed for a month due to ‘staff shortages’.

The branch on the upper level of the Galleries has had its shutters down since October 19.

A source told BristolWorld that the temporary closure was due to a staffing shortage.

When asked on the issue, a company spokesperson said the store was shut because of ‘operational reasons’.

They added that it was hoped the shop would reopen soon.

The company currently has 22 jobs advertised at branches across Bristol, including the Galleries store, on its website.

The roles vary from retail team member paid £9.03 an hour to a shop manager with an annual salary of £26,060.

In October, the company said it had been affected by the nationwide labour shortage as well as a disruption to supplies due to the lorry driver shortages.

In a trading update, the group said: “Supply chain issues and labour shortages remain a key risk for Greggs with no end in sight.”

Aside from the Galleries store there are six other Greggs shops in Bristol city centre, with the nearest in Broadmead.

There are also stores in Bedminster, Knowle, St Philip’s, Redfield, Hartcliffe, Brislington, Fishponds, Staple Hill, Kingswood, Filton, Southmead, Lawrence Weston and Henbury.

On the Galleries shop closure, the Greggs spokesperson said: “Greggs [at the Galleries] has been closed since October 19 for operational reasons and we are hoping to open it up again soon.”
