Crikey! Anyone wanting a bratwurst and a pint of beer at Bristol’s Christmas Market this year will need more than a £10 note.

That’s because prices for beer and hot food have risen sharply since the market was last on in Broadmead in 2019.

The market made its long-awaited return today (November 5) with more than 50 decorated chalets selling gifts and a range of food adding Christmas charm to the city centre.

Jewellery to handmade toys to fudge were being sold over counters to shoppers happy to get into the festive spirit.

And at its centre, the impressive covered Jäger Barn Bar was already doing good business within hours of opening, along with the hot food stalls surrounding it.

However, some visitors may have got a shock when it came to paying for their round of food and drink this time.

Unlike in 2019, when the cost of a pint of Paulaner German premium lager was £5, this year the drink puts customers back £6.

The slightly cheaper Kozel Czech beer is also on offer at £5.

And as for Gluhwein, it cost £4.50 in 2019, but this year it is priced at £5.

And when it comes to food, the traditional German pork sausage bratwurst at the Jaeger Grill has also gone up in price.
