Silver screen icon Cary Grant has been revealed as Bristol’s most notable person, alongside cricketer W.G Grace and former snooker world champion Judd Trump
A new interactive map, conceived by researcher and geographer Topi Tjukanov, allows users to see who the most famous people in their area are.

Hide AdThe Finnish geographer revealed on Twitter that the data he used to build the interactive map contains a “rank value” and a notability “sum value”.
Tjukanov developed the map with colleagues at the University of Paris and used data scraped from Wikipedia and Wikidata to help determine the notability of celebrities in each local area under the categories “culture”, “discovery and science”, “leadership” and “sports and games.”
Who is Cary Grant?
Lauded by critics as one of the 20th century’s most influential actors, Cary Grant has been named as Bristol’s most notable name.
Grant was well known for his Hollywood exploits, including roles in romantic ‘screwball’ comedies such as The Awful Truth (1937) and The Philadelphia Story (1940).

Following Cary Grant is W.G. Grace, widely regarded as a central figure in the development of cricket.
Grace played as an all-rounder, captaining England and Gloucestershire in his 44-season career. He is known for his batting style and exemplary first-class record.
Whitechurch born Judd Trump also rated highly. The professional snooker-player has achieved a number one ranking on four separate occasions - his longest stint at the top lasted for two years.
