It’s the summer holidays and families across Bristol will be looking for days out over the next few weeks.
Despite our city being a great place to live, work and play in - sometimes it’s good to get away and explore a part of the surrounding region.

From a seaside resort to a medieval castles and beautiful nature spots, here’s 13 of the best spots for your next day trip this summer.
1. Longleat Safari and Adventure Park
Just over an hour’s drive away from Bristol, Longleat is brilliant fun for all the family. The safari, with all the monkey madness, is the best part, but there is also the house and estate which can be explored. An adventure park with a railway and castle is also worth going to.
2. Cheddar Gorge
With its narrow main road with charming shops and coffee houses, Cheddar Gorge is worth the visit along for a wander. But those fancying an adventure, there is also a Jacob’s Ladder and Lookout Tower plus activities like crazy golf.
3. Farleigh Hungerford Castle
Enjoy a free audio tour at this English Heritage site not alot of people know about. The castle, near Trowbridge, was lived in by the Hungerford family for 300 years. Today it stands in ruins, but there is plenty to look around with some hidden treasures to find. Nearby is the village of Avoncliff with the picturesque Cross Guns pub if you fancied lunch out too.
4. Dyrham Park
Explore nature and history at this 270-acre parkland where there is plenty to keep the family occupied for a day. You can learn the incredible house which has been featured on Poldark, or simply explore the vast estate which features a new play area and a calendar of summer activities.
