A Toby Carvery in Bristol that was temporarily closed last autumn after mouse droppings were found has received a new hygiene rating.

Hide AdThe pub and restaurant, on Bristol Road in Whitchurch Village, has been awarded a 5 ‘very good’ rating after an unannounced inspection yesterday (June 3).
This comes after Toby Carvery Maes Knoll received a 1 ‘major improvement necessary’ rating on October 30 last year, after a food hygiene inspector found evidence of mouse activity in all customer areas.
The premises voluntarily closed for a number of days following that inspection for health and safety checks.

Hide AdIn January this year, Toby Carvery's parent company Mitchells & Butlers told BristolWorld it had “fully resolved” the issues found in the autumn inspection.
In a Facebook post today (June 4), Toby Carvery Maes Knoll wrote: “After an unannounced visit on June 3 by the local authority, we are extremely proud to announce that we have regained our 5-star food hygiene rating.
“A proud moment and a superb team effort thanks to our amazing team and their continued hard work, and of course our loyal guests who have continued to support us over the last few months.”

Hide AdBristolWorld was able to reveal the contents of the October 30 food hygiene report in January this year following a Freedom of Information request to Bath and North East Somerset Council.
The report said: “Evidence of mouse activity still present in all customer areas, advice to deep clean the premises to allow for effective monitoring has not been achieved to the required standards.

Hide Ad“Droppings found under the vast majority of seating areas and one dropping located on a customer table.”
It said pest proofing and staff training on pest identification and management was required.
In response to the revelations, a Mitchells & Butlers spokesperson told BristolWorld in January: “We have worked with the support from EHO (environmental health officers) to implement numerous changes at the property and are confident our hygiene standards are of the highest order, and that the issues evidenced three months ago have now been fully resolved."
