A popular Bristol pub and restaurant has issued a statement as to why it closed its doors suddenly.

The Toby Carvery Maes Knoll in Whitchurch village closed yesterday without warning and a notice posted on the door said it was closed ‘for the duration of the day’. The pub is still closed today (November 3).

It’s not the first time the pub has closed suddenly. Earlier this year, the same Toby Carvery was closed due to a fridge failure, leading to more than 600 cancelled bookings.

Although Toby Carvery hasn’t said why the pub had to close this time, they have issued a statement.

A Toby Carvery spokesperson said: “We apologise that the restaurant is closed temporarily for health and safety checks which have been arranged at short notice and means we have been unable to give guests advanced notice.

“We apologise to guests who were planning to visit us but we expect the restaurant to open as usual on Saturday.”
