A popular Bristol bakery and cafe has reopened - more than three months after it closed.

The Greggs in Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Knowle temporarily shut its doors at the end of October 2023.

The closure was understood to allow preparations to be made for the opening of a new Greggs in Tesco in Brislington.

And now, more than three months later, the Knowle store has finally reopened.

The reopening has been met with surprise by customers, many of which thought it would never open again.

“Shocked at that, thought it was closed forever. Good news though,” was the view of one member of the Filwood Residents Association Facebook group.

“Back open knowing that the shopping centre is going,” noted a second.

“Nice to be back open but won’t be open for long,” wrote a third.

The reopening comes amid a judicial review into the controversial decision to knock down the centre and build up to 850 flats being launched.

Developers Redcatch Development Partnership have said the judicial review will mean 'the centre will be stuck in limbo for the foreseeable future, which could run up to another two years depending on legal processes'.

A number of shops have closed in Broadwalk over the last year including B&M, M W Freshfoods, Jobcentre, Betfred, TUI, Viet Kitchen, Nikki Jaine’s Light Bites and I-play.

The most recent closure, Nook, shut its doors due to 'declining footfall and takings coupled with ever increasing costs'.
