Kurtis Leyland is a sports and trends writer at NationalWorld who is currently based in South Yorkshire. He is responsible for writing a range of stories from detailed explainers around current events to voicing his opinion on who the next England manager should be.

Prior to joining NationalWorld, Kurt studied journalism for four years and graduated with a masters degree in sports journalism at Sheffield Hallam University, learning skills such as radio, TV, media law and feature writing while also gaining experience at the Sheffield Star.
He joined the NationalWorld team in July 2022 and his journalism highlights have seen him cover huge events such as the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the World Cup in Qatar, the Women's European Championships in England and the build up to King Charles III’s coronation. Kurt enjoys writing sports-based content and aims to do so in a way that engages as much as it informs. He has interviewed a range of sporting figures over his career including former Doncaster Rovers owner John Ryan, former footballer John Stiles and boxing coach Dominic Ingle.
Away from work, he is a supporter of Newcastle United and a fan of bands such as the Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles and Oasis. Kurt enjoys playing football, running, going to gigs and travelling to different countries around the world.
