Gerhard Struber’s side begin this matchweek in fourth position and are only three points behind second placed Middlesbrough in the highly coveted automatic promotion spots. They are performing like a team with ambitions of reaching the Premier League and at present are the joint second highest scorers in the division, with only pacesetters Coventry City finding the net on more occasions.

The Robins have a great opportunity to keep themselves amongst the front-runners given Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton’s slow start to the campaign. They’ll see this match as a real opportunity to send out a message to the rest of the division but they know it’ll be far from easy with Stoke City also occupying a play-off place after a much-improved start to this campaign under Mark Robins.

Ahead of kick-off, we take a look at how Gerhard Struber could set up his Bristol City team as they look to continue their impressive run of form.

Bristol City predicted lineup vs Stoke City: goalkeeper and defence

GK: Radek Vítek: Bristol City’s first choice from last season Max O’Leary is back in contention but he’ll have a tough job at this moment in time usurping the Czech youngster, who has been excellent since joining on loan from Manchester United.

CB: George Tanner: The full-back performed well in a central role last week and is expected to make his 12th appearance of the campaign.

CB: Robert Dickie: After helping the Robins to a big win over Birmingham, Robert Dickie keeps his place in the backline.

CB: Robert Atkinson: The central defender has looked strong this season and retains a starting spot as Bristol City aim to cement their strong start.

RWB: Ross McCrorie: With four goal contributions this season it’s fair to say that Ross McCrorie has made a good impression. He’s likely to start in the wing back position with Mark Sykes providing competition from the bench.

LWB: Neto Borges: The Brazilian has started the last three matches and is aiming to make the position his own in the coming weeks and months.

Bristol City predicted lineup vs Stoke City: midfield and attack

CDM: Zak Vyner: The 28-year-old, who was the subject of interest from Wrexham, has looked excellent this season. He’s likely to feature for the 13th time this campaign.

CDM: Adam Randell: Summer signing Adam Randell has been a near ever present in the middle of the park since arriving from Plymouth Argyle. It’s tough to see that changing anytime soon due to his consistency in the middle of the park.

CAM: Scott Twine: Free-kick specialist Scott Twine seems to have taken his game to a higher level this season. He has five goals and two assists and has been one of the standout players in his position this term.

CAM: Anis Mehmeti: Albanian international Anis Mehmeti has also been top-class in a central attacking midfield role. His five goals and three assists makes him one of the most efficient in his position as well.

ST: Emil Riis: Former Preston talisman Emil Riis remains "still on track" to feature against Stoke City, according to Gerhard Struber. He missed the last match as Sinclair Armstrong stepped up to bag the winner but should lead the line if all goes to plan.
