Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary is a fairly small cat and dog sanctuary which opened in 1992 just outside of Bristol, in Wild Country Lane, Barrow Gurney.
A wide range of dog breeds and ages are available for adoption, including Lurches, Staffies and Terriers.
Scroll through to learn about 15 of the rescue centre’s residents, who would love to find a permanent home in time for Christmas. More information on the dogs and the adoption process is available via the Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary website.

1. Sunny, approximately 1 year old male Lurcher
The handsome boy is approximately one year old and came to Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary as a stray. He’s super smart and has lots of energy. The sweet Sunny is a sweetheart who loves a cuddle and is super affectionate. Sunny is a larger Lurcher and is still very puppy like in his ways, so will need a home that can give him the ongoing training that he will need and thrive on. He loves long walks, and although he has a bit of a prey drive, he generally walks nicely on the lead. Whilst he likes to interact with dogs out and about, Sunny needs to be the only dog in his new home. | Bristol World

2. Dougie, 10 month old male Labrador cross
"Dougie is really friendly with people, meeting everyone with a wriggly bum and waggy tail! He is super smart, picking up basic commands quickly. Being a typical Lab, he is a foody, so that helps greatly with his training. But he did show some food guarding issues in his previous home, and sadly those behaviours have continued here, so will need careful management in any new home. This gorgeous lad is strong on the lead, so that will need working on. But off lead in the secure field he has amazing recall, wanting to check back in with you, showing his sweet side. He’s a busy, active boy who loves his walks and getting enrichment from sniffing around and exploring his surroundings. Dougie is just a big puppy, who needs to be with someone/people who will have the time, energy and patience to almost start again with him with regards to his training and socialising. He has masses of potential and with he right person will grow to be the most amazing dog." | Holly Hedge

3. Nico, 8 year old male Staffy
Nico is a cuddly boy with his carers and thrives on human attention, but he is really struggling in the kennel environment. He is incredibly smart and happy to show off his tricks for a treat. He is currently being muzzle trained as a muzzle would be beneficial when out and about in busier areas, as he can feel overwhelmed at time. The adorable dog is incredibly foodie and enjoys training and mental enrichment to keep his smart brain busy. Nico is looking for a calm adult home in a less built up area, where his encounters with other dogs can be managed and where he can be the only dog in the home. | BristolWorld

4. Blue, 3 year old male Lurcher Cross
"Blue is one smart cookie who loves learning new things, especially enrichment based toys and games to keep his busy mind active. He has a very strong prey drive, so will need people who can deal with a strong dog. He also struggles with other dogs, so in addition will need training and work on triggers of seeing other dogs. For that reason Blue is currently being muzzle trained. This handsome lad also has a much softer side to him, as he just loves a cuddles on the sofa with his carers. In fact he loves people in general once he gets to know them with gentle introductions. Blue is looking for a home where someone is around a lot of the time to give him the company he loves. Someone/people who will have the time and patience to help build up his confidence and help him grow into a well balanced lad." | Holly Hedge
