Bristol Rovers have been busy in the transfer market over the last two windows, signing 15 players and letting various players leave the club.

Promotion to League One, meant that Joey Barton had to assemble a squad capable of competing in a higher division. The Gas won promotion from League Two on the final day of the season in dramatic fashion and whilst a core of the squad remained, a lot of changes were made in the conclusion to their season.

Left-back is an area that numerous players have been tried and tested, and right now it is Lewis Gordon is holding down that position. Gordon signed from Brentford in the summer on a two-year contract, and has so far performed well in his first full season in professional football. He's been challenged by Scott Sinclair in recent weeks in that position, whilst Lewis Gibson can also play in that role.

Before Gordon and co, Harry Anderson was tried in that role, to make Rovers more attack-minded, but then before that you had Junior Brown, Nick Anderton and Trevor Clarke. Anderton played the most out of the trio last season, and was seen on Gloucester Street celebrating with Aaron Collins on a traffic light.

When Brown arrived at the Mem, he joined on Deadline Day with Antony Evans and Leon Clarke in a triple swoop. It was Evans that ultimately became the best out of the three signings, with the former Everton midfielder influential in the promotion. Brown did arrive with a lot of experience under his belt, and despite being made available for transfer in January, he could not source a move.

It's been eight months since Brown's departure from Rovers was announced, so what has happened since? Is the 33-year-old still playing? All is revealed...

Is Junior Brown still playing?

Brown has opted not to retire, and is still playing, though he is no longer in professional football, and now plays at semi-professional level.

Who does Brown play for?

Brown, born in Crewe, has returned closer to home, and now plays in Shropshire for Midland League Premier Division outfit Whitchurch Alport. Alport are playing in the ninth tier of English football, and so Brown has dropped five divisions since leaving the Mem.

How’s he done with Alport?

It’s a good time to be speaking about Brown, who last week scored a late winner for his side in their 1-0 win over Tividale, which is the second time he scored against them this season. Brown scored in the 95th minute, which was his second goal in as many games after scoring against Darlaston Town.

And a hidden talent?

At any club, a new signing does an initiation, and that is usually done on their pre-season camp or on their way to their first away game of the season. Brown chose to sing Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s hit single ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ from the 1960s.
