Anderson was informed by Rovers' League One rivals Stevenage that his contract at the Lamex Stadium would not be renewed. He departed the Memorial Stadium last summer and signed a one-year deal with the Boro, but found it hard to break through in to Steve Evans' team.

The 27-year-old was loaned out to Colchester United for the second part of the 2023/24 season. He reunited with Danny Cowley who worked with him at Lincoln City and was a keen admirer of him during his time at the Gas, even watching him at the Mem when they were in League Two. During his time with Colchester, he scored two goals in 10 games and helped prevent them from being relegated to the National League.

In a message to Anderson, as well as Theo Alexandrou who was also released, the club said: "Stevenage Football Club would like to thank each player for their time with us & wish them the best of luck for the future."

Anderson was part of the Rovers team that won promotion from League Two in the 2021/22 season. He missed just two games that year and got six goals and four assists, including setting up Aaron Collins for the sixth goal in their 7-0 win against Scunthorpe United on the final day of the season.

Anderson last year was hampered by injuries and was absent for a couple of periods, he was limited to 30 appearances in all competitions with just 12 league starts. He was invited back to training last summer by Joey Barton but the two sides could not reach an agreement on a new deal and he departed.
