He has been at the club since 2021 and under Joey Barton and then Matt Taylor, the Scouser has been a key figure. He has 19 goal contributions this term with 10 goals and nine assists across League One, the EFL Trophy, FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

Earlier this week, the club published their retained list which saw seven players depart. Evans has been retained for a further season as he is in contract and the player which won the Player of the Season award could be at the heart of a transfer saga this summer.

The Bristol Post report that should Evans not indicate that he wants to stay in the West Country then they could consider moving him on this summer. A transfer fee would be needed to take him from Rovers to Fratton Park and that could be reinvested back in to the squad.

"We want Antony to be here,” said Matt Taylor to BBC Radio Bristol about the current contract situation.

“I think it’s important to say that he didn’t start the season in the team and that’s not my doing, he worked his way back into the team and has then been consistent and then to get all of those awards, it’s a bit like Chris Martin.

“Probably our two best and biggest performers didn’t start the season either at the club or in the team which is surreal to say.

"Credit to them both for seeing through a difficult moment and then producing and that’s what football is. It’s about producing performances and, whether it’s Chris’ goals or Antony’s goals and assists, they’ve just been consistent in relation to that and we hope that that continues for a long time."
