Peterborough United have surprisingly transfer listed former Bristol Rovers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.

The 28-year-old finished as joint top scorer in League One this season, scoring 27 goals, as Peterborough reached the play-offs. Clarke-Harris has got 74 goals in 147 games for Peterborough, and has played in the Championship and the third tier, but after the appointment of Darren Ferguson, it seems the club are going in a new direction, and are ready to cash in on Clarke-Harris.

The Posh paid £2m to bring Clarke-Harris to London Road in the summer of 2020 and any sale does include a sell-on-clause which is believed to be around 20%, according to the Peterborough Telegraph. He had been linked with a move to Sunderland earlier this season, and a move to the Championship would be likely given his obvious ability to score.

Peterborough are looking to reduce the wage bill and go for an emphasis on youth, as they aim to bring players through their academy, and recruit from the lower leagues.

“There has to be a reset and a focus on the young players and on the medium and long term rather than the short," explained manager Darren Ferguson who penned a three-year deal after replacing Grant McCann on a short-term contract.

"It doesn’t mean we can’t be successful in the short term but the expectations have to be realistic and that might mean not saying ‘Peterborough are going to go and smash League One next season’ because that’s probably not going to happen."

Clarke-Harris has been joined by Oliver Norburn on the transfer list too. Norburn made 59 appearances for Rovers and got 59 goals, and after enduring a few seasons in the National League, went on to play for Shrewsbury Town in League One, and Peterborough in the Championship.

Frankie Kent, Josh Knight, Dan Butler, Jenado Fuchs, Ben Thompson, Joe Tomlinson and Christy Pym are also available for transfer meanwhile Benjamin Mensah and Nathan Thompson were released.
