Bristol Rovers’ brutal League One away record compared to Burton and Wigan amid relegation battle

Bristol Rovers are currently on a four-match losing streak which now leaves them just three points ahead of the drop zone with nearest side Burton Albion bracing themselves for a crucial game in hand.
A costly 5-0 defeat at Lincoln City’s LNER Stadium triggered this nightmare run and was only further compounded when the Gas continue their away day troubles with a 1-0 defeat at Crawley before falling to back-to-back 2-1 home defeats more recently against Mansfield Town and leaders Birmingham City.

The Pirates know their home form will be crucial if they are to beat the drop but the most telling factor behind their struggles this season has been their ghastly away record. Rovers face a challenging end of season run-in to try and secure their League One status but as it stands how many points have they picked up away from home and how does their record compare to others in the division.
What is Bristol Rovers’ away record this season?
Bristol Rovers have managed just three victories from 20 matches on the road this season. Only Cambridge United and Shrewsbury with two each have managed less victories on their travels.Rovers have picked up just two draws in their away visits this season, giving them an overall tally of 11 points which is the joint lowest in the entire league with Cambridge and Shrewsbury.
The Gas have found the net just 11 times in front of their travelling supporters this season, which is the lowest of any team in the third tier, while their record of conceding 37 is the third worst in the division behind Peterborough (38) and Crawley Town (44).

Rovers would sit 12th in the League One table if it was based solely on home form, but their away record when factoring in goal difference is the worst in the entire league and arguably the biggest contributor to the club’s increasingly challenging season.
League One away record table
Promotion hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers boast the best record on their travels of any team in the league with 10 wins, six draws and just three defeats from 19 games on the road. Runaway leaders Birmingham have recorded of 10 wins, five draws and three defeats, having played on less away games than the Chairboys.
At the other end of the spectrum, the likes of Shrewsbury and Cambridge both have 11 points on their road four less than 21st placed away team Crawley. A concern for Bristol Rovers will be Burton Albion’s decent away record of 22 points from 20 games which is double the amount the Gas have managed this term.
