Bristol Rovers’ man in form Aaron Collins has been named in the League One ‘Team of the Week’ for his performance against Morecambe.

The 24-year-old set up Ryan Loft for the second time in three games for his equalising goal in the first-half against the Shrimps, whilst also hitting the post twice.

Based on the ratings of WhoScored, who provide the EFL data for weekly, monthly and annual awards, Collins returned a rating of 8.4, the highest in the match.

Jensen Weir - scorer of Morecambe’s first goal - was the second best player on the pitch with a rating of 7.6 which was still some way off what Collins recorded.

His performance ranked so high that he was included in the EFL ‘Team of the Week’ across the whole three divisions, playing just behind Bristol City attacker Nahki Wells, who scored a brace against Blackburn Rovers.

Collins - who signed a new three-year deal this summer after interest from Portsmouth - has hit the ground running in the third tier and has scored as well as created the most goals in the team with four strikes to his name as well as three assists with John Marquis second to him with three goal contributions.

He has this season been deployed as a left-sided winger to accommodate Marquis and make up for the absence of Elliot Anderson, who has returned to Newcastle United to become a first-team player.

Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Marko Marosi starts off the team in goals for his clean sheet in the Shrews’ 2-0 win over Forest Green Rovers with Jordan Shipley included in midfield after netting his first goal.

Cheick Diabate of Exeter City is included after their 1-0 win over MK Dons, alongside Barnsley’s Mads Andersen who kept out Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe Wanderers’ Alfie Mawson.

Lee Evans is included after Ipswich topped the table with a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley with the Wales midfielder setting up Conor Chaplin for his first goal.
