Bristol Rovers once again crept into the top half of League One attendances this weekend after a respectable crowd against Morecambe.

Jensen Weir put the Shrimps ahead before Ryan Loft equalised and then debutant Bobby Thomas scored an equaliser after Kieran Phillips’ restored Morecambe’s lead.

A total of 8,821 watched the Gas twice come from behind to salvage a point against a side that have yet to taste victory this season.

Morecambe, one of the smaller teams in the division, brought 200 away supporters which was one of the lowest of the weekend.

Despite the lowly away following, it was the second highest home crowd of the season for Rovers, beating the 8,570 recorded against Shrewsbury and the 8,297 against Oxford United, which was an early kick off.

Compared to the rest of the division, it ranked as the fifth highest out of the 12 games on offer in the third tier. The early season average attendance table has Rovers as the eighth highest so far with an average of 8,688 which is respectable given the early season restrictions placed upon them.

Big hitters Sheffield Wednesday boasted a five figure crowd, though it was a Yorkshire Derby with Barnsley which boosted the numbers.

Derby County - who suffered their first home defeat of the season - were just a few hundred off Wednesday’s with an equally as impressive following of just over 2,000 Plymouth supporters.

Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth were the other teams to get into five figures, despite Charlton Athletic and Peterborough United bringing less than a 1,000.

At the different end of the table, new boys Forest Green Rovers had only 2,468 fans at The New Lawn. Scott Brown’s Fleetwood Town weren’t too far behind with 2,936 at Highbury Stadium for the clash with Wycombe Wanderers.
