The 2023/24 schedule is out for Bristol Rovers - and it’s a trip to Fratton Park to start the season.

Bristol Rovers will begin their 2023/24 League One campaign with a trip to Portsmouth on Saturday, August 5.

Pompey have been busy in the transfer market, and have signed six players so far; Will Norris, Conor Shaughnessy, Ben Stevenson, Christian Saydee, Terry Devlin and Anthony Scully. According to the odds, Portsmouth are currently sixth favourites to get promoted.

Rovers first home game of the season comes a week later against Barnsley on Saturday, August, 12. The Tykes - who look set to lose manager Michael Duff to Swansea City, lost in the play-off final to Sheffield Wednesday, and will be hoping to go one further this time. Joey Barton is set to be absent for the trip to Portsmouth, and the home match against Barnsley, as a result of a stadium ban from the EFL, but the club are appealing that decision.

As for the festive period, Rovers are at home on Boxing Day, and they will welcome Pompey to the Memorial Stadium, following their opening day clash. Three days later, they welcome Charlton Athletic to the Mem on December 29, before travelling to Wycombe Wanderers on New Years Day.

October and March are Rovers' busiest month with six fixtures in each, compared to the usual four or five. Cheltenham Town is the closest trip this season, but fans will have to wait until Saturday, April 13, to make that journey. Carlisle United is the furthest trip Rovers fans will have to make this season, and that comes on Saturday, November 11.

As for what could be deemed a 'Derby' match with Oxford United, with matches usually changed to an early kick-off, the first match between the two is on Saturday, October 7, with Rovers travelling to the Kassam Stadium. The U's - who have been one of the busier teams in the summer transfer window, will grace the Mem on Saturday, January 27.

The end of the season concludes on Saturday, April 27, when Rovers make the trip to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic. The Latics have been deducted eight points after failing to pay their players on time, but are now under new ownership, and are still hopeful of mounting a promotion push, despite their setback.
