The 22-year-old has been among City's top performers this season and is a fan favourite due to his unquestionable commitment and desire.

"I think I've progressed this season, hopefully, everyone else thinks so too," he said. "I'm happy to have played the way I've played so far."

Knight has seven goal contributions to his name in all competitions so far, and with his fresh, more advanced role in the side, is confident he can increase those numbers.

"I'm really enjoying it, the gaffer's been good with me and it's down to me now to put the ball into the back of the net more often. It's something I'm relishing and I want to contribute more.

"I have the capabilities of scoring goals and making assists, and the way football is going now, that's a big part of it. if you want to be a top midfielder, you have to add those aspects to your game... I think I've done well, but there's more to come."

Knight said it was important for him to get back to playing Championship football this season, and as a high-level performer in the second tier, as well as being a full international, couldn't hide his desire to play in the Premier League in the future.

"Everyone who plays football, that's where you want to be. It's certainly my objective and I know it's the club's objective. We've just got to put in the groundwork, keep going, keep improving and we will strive for it."

Knight's talent is far from the only aspect of his game that has impressed City stakeholders. Knight's mesmerising stamina and emotion for the game are just as important.

"It's something I'm always working on, in my time here and Derby as well. I'm an emotional guy, I think I said it when I first came here. I love what I'm doing and I want to do my best, sometimes that boils over, but that's football.

"It's a willingness because you have to give everything. When I signed for this club I said I would give everything and that's my word. I won't let that die so every time I get out there I'll do my best and work the hardest."
