Former Bristol City players Jamie Paterson and Liam Walsh left the Robins last summer after the expiration of both their contracts with the pair signing differing deals with the Welsh side.

Paterson signed a one year deal with a 12 month option to extend which was later activated by the Swans whilst midfielder Walsh committed to two years at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Starting first with Jamie, he has adapted quickly to life in his time at the Swans with the winger scoring eight and assisting five in 24 appearances and becoming a crucial part to Swansea City’s team.

He was the first player to be signed by Swansea’s head coach Russell Martin who arrived in early August, he replaced Steve Cooper who later became manager of Nottingham Forest.

For a side in transition with players trying to get to the gist of a change in style of play, some players have shone whilst others are bubbling away in the background.

The 29-year-old is currently the club’s second highest top scorer this season behind striker Joël Piroe who has 13 goals this season however Paterson does lead rankings with his five assists and has been a creative spark for his side his season.

Paterson according to BBC Sport has created a total of 29 chances in the 24 appearances he has made which narrows down to an average of 1.21 chances created per 90 minutes.

Most recently, he was taken out of the side after off-the-field issues with there being interest from Swansea’s Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers, but the London club couldn’t build on their interest.

He was recently reintroduced into the side and made an assist for Michael Obefami in the 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers last Saturday: “That was amazing, to be fair. It gave me a big boost and really gave me that lift to come back in and pick up where I left off from before,” said Paterson.

“They got behind me, they sang my name, it was an amazing feeling and I was just glad to give them the three points.

“I love playing football, sometimes things off the pitch can be difficult and I just want to get back to playing football.

“I will try and score and assist as many times as I can, and bring the leadership and experience the gaffer talks to me about.”

Moving on to the other former Robin who later made the move to Swansea City is midfielder Liam Walsh, who rarely got game time, mainly owing to the injuries he sustained during his time at Ashton Gate.

Joining from Everton’s Under-23’s for an undisclosed fee back in January 2018, he made eight appearances in his first few months at the club. He wasn’t able though to build on that and his opportunities in B36 were limited with only nine games in the 2018/19 season. Walsh was then shipped out on loan to Coventry City where he helped them win promotion from League One, getting into the Team of the Season.

Despite his exploits with the Sky Blues, it didn’t improve his chances at City and last season after only three appearances, he was released, thus his move to Swansea City.

He has already been moved on from the Swans though albeit temporarily after they allowed him to join Hull City on a loan deal until the rest of the season, which comes as a surprise given the two are near one another in the league table.

The Englishman made five appearances in the Championship for Russell Martin’s side, though he wasn’t signed by the former MK Dons boss and instead was a signing made by Cooper, making him a transitional addition.

Walsh is a midfielder that will get on the ball to control possession and bring the ball up the pitch. For Swansea this year he has averaged a very high passing accuracy with an average of 79% success rate per game. The midfielder has already made his debut for Hull which ended in a 3-1 loss to Derby County. He played 65 minutes before being replaced by substitute Allahyar Sayyadmanesh.
