Chris Martin put Nigel Pearson’s side in front from the spot after Ian Maatsen had been sent off for a foul.

Matt Godden equalised for the ten-men but Andreas Weiman once again put the away side in front. In a fifteen minute capitulation, Callum O’Hare equalised before Godden  won the game in the 92nd minute.

It was the second consecutive defeat for City, who dropped down to 19th in what has been a difficult period for the club.

To add salt into the wounds, Coventry revelled in the victory and took to social media to celebrate.

Before the game, the Robins Twitter tweeted their opponents saying: “Hi @Coventry_City , just checking you have Cider in the away end?” with an apple emoji.

It wasn’t met with an immediate response, but once the result was confirmed, the Sky Blues were able to send a cheeky joke to City.

Coventry’s Twitter account tweeted the original tweet with the response of a video of goalscorer Callum O’Hare drinking a Bulmers Cider, captioned with “Yep, still loads left,” with a thumbs up and winking face emoji.”

Cider of course is a popular drink amongst Bristol and the West Country with ‘Drink Up Thy Zider’ rung round Ashton Gate when City claim a win.

Reaction to the tweet was taken in good spirits from Bristol City fans, who applauded Coventry for their work.

Supporter James Patten (@jamespatten17) responded to it saying: “Fair play admin. Sticking it to us.”

Reflecting on more serious matters, opposition manager Mark Robbins, commented briefly on how he set up against City.

After the dismissal of Maatsen, he opted to keep both Viktor Gyökeres and Matt Godden on the pitch, rather than sacrifice an attacking player.

In midweek, they suffered defeat to Swansea City, who have an emphasis on possession-based football.

Robins said he persisted with his two front-men because of the style of Bristol City.

“If we’d have been playing against Swansea and been down to ten men they’d have picked us apart,” he said to the Coventry Telegraph.

“It just depends on the circumstances, so you have to read the game, Bristol started to get tired, and we had ten men.
