How the Championship table would look if it was based solely on home results

Bristol City have been a force to be reckoned with at Ashton Gate Stadium this season and Liam Manning will hope that his side’s tremendous home form can be the catalyst towards a play-off place finish as the Cider Army edge closer to achieving their best league finish in nearly 17 years.

As it stands, the Robins are eighth in the table, level on points with seventh placed Middlesbrough and sixth placed West Brom. They are just one adrift of Coventry City in fifth position and are firmly in the race to secure a top six place heading into the business end of the season.

With just eight games to spare and four key showdowns at Aston Gate, Bristol City will hope they have enough to get over the line and ensure an exciting end of season finale. But where would Bristol City sit in the table if it was solely based on home performances and how does their record in South West England compare to the rest of the division when playing in front of their own supporters? Here’s all you need to know.

Who has the best home record in the Championship?

Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United boast the best home record in the entire division with an impressive 49 points from 20 games, giving them an average of 2.45 points per game. The Whites have won 15, drawn four and lost just once in front of the Elland Road faithful and remain on course to clinch automatic promotion back to the top-flight at the second time of asking after last term’s play-off heartbreak at Wembley Stadium against Southampton.

Daniel Farke, who has previously won promotion to the top-flight twice with Norwich City, has seen his Leeds side notably score 49 since the start of the campaign in August while only conceding just 11, leaving Bristol City with the unenviable task of trying to defy the odds in South Yorkshire on the penultimate game of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Sheffield United, who recently leapfrogged Leeds at the top of the Championship have picked up a stunning 45 points from games at Bramall Lane in a stark contrast to their dismal season last time out in the Premier League when they finished rock bottom. Sunderland have also made the Stadium of Light a fortress under Regis Le Bris with 43 of their points this season coming in game in Wearside.

How does Bristol City’s home record compare to the rest of the Championship?

Play-off contenders Bristol City have won 10, drawn six and lost just three of their 19 home matches in the Championship this term, giving them an overall points tally of 36 and an average of 1.89 points per game.

This gives the Cider Army the fifth best home record in the Championship and a vastly superior record in front of their own supporters in comparison to Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City, who have struggled to find any home comforts this term.
