Nigel Pearson believes his Bristol City side showed their togetherness in their goalless draw with Millwall. The Robins and Lions played to a stalemate in South London.

Both teams had chances to win with Andreas Voglsammer rattling the crossbar in the first-half. City had several opportunities to score with Antoine Semenyo denied and Andi Weimann missing a golden chance to score from yards out.

Pearson made three changes to the side that lost three days ago, and it prompted an battling performance from his side. Millwall failed to register a shot on target, with City the side closest to winning.

“It’s a decent point on the road,” began Pearson in his post-match assessment with Robins TV. “I think the players showed tonight how much how together they are and how we can do the ugly side pretty well at times.

“We needed to get something out of the game, I’m disappointed not to win. Both sides would argue they had some good opportunities. Mixed feelings but better than losing getting a point and it’s not an easy place to come here.”

City needed a response after a 2-0 defeat to West Brom on Boxing Day. A section of supporters at Ashton Gate voiced their displeasure at the full-time whistle which prompted discussions amongst the fan base about Pearson’s future.

Over 1,000 supporters made their way to South London to back their team. A point on the road is not perfect but fans will have been pleased in the manner in which they battled well, defending their goal, as well as creating opportunities.

“I think the reaction after the home game was not easy for everybody really,” he said. “I think the players have shown our supporters tonight who have came in good numbers and thank you for supporting the team, I thought they were excellent.

“They go home tonight seeing a team performance that they know we did the ugly side of the game with a decent appetite. We still created some decent opportunities too.”
