Bristol City and Millwall cancelled each other out as the two played to a goalless draw at The Den in their final game of 2022.

Tommy Conway proved a handful for Millwall’s defence in the opening quarter. The Scotland Under-21 international’s right-footed shot whistled past the post.

Tom Bradshaw went close for Millwall as his header from Tyler Burey’s cross was powered over. In an otherwise quiet first-half, Andreas Voglsammer almost broke the deadlock as his mean half volley cannoned off the crossbar.

Millwall - specialists from set-pieces, nearly broke the deadlock as Murray Wallace’s header from a quickly taken corner-kick had to be palmed away.

City had been under the cosh for a large portion of the second period but Alex Scott nearly squeezed a curling shot past George Long. Antoine Semenyo then forced Long to come out and block with his body after Andi Weimman’s through ball. Weimann missed a gilt-edged chance to score as he scuffed his close-range shot.

Millwall almost snatched victory as from a second ball from an uncleared corner-kick, he skimmed a shot just over the crossbar.

Max O’Leary - 6

He held his place despite errors in the defeat to West Brom and put in a positive performance. O’Leary was assured in between the sticks and made a good save to deny Wallace.

Zak Vyner - 7

Vyner defended the box well and would often win the first-time ball on many occasions. He read the game like a book.

Rob Atkinson - 7

Back starting and looked composed in the centre. Made a telling block to deny Voglsammer the opener late in the first-half.

Kal Naismith - 8

Pinpoint. Naismith played some delightful diagonal passes to his teammates, and most of the time they met their intended recipient.

George Tanner - 7

A decent first-half outing with joy down his right-hand side. In the second-half, Millwall’s threat came down his flank, and he didn’t have as much joy down his side attacking wise.

Alex Scott - 7

A few flashes here and there of Scott’s obvious ability, but was unable to impose himself on the game attacking wise. He did show a defensive side to his game and matched up well against grown men.

Matty James - 8

An efficient performance in the centre of the park, he cleaned up everything.

Cameron Pring - 6

A bit of joy in the second-half for Pring down his flank, with City making opportunities down his side.

Andi Weimann - 7

No goals for the Austrian, but he was pulling the strings and getting the two forwards involved. Weimann enjoyed a freedom role, playing balls in centrally and on the flanks. He missed a golden opportunity to score though.

Antoine Semenyo - 7

A tricky player for Millwall to deal with and it was obvious they had tried to target him with a few cynical fouls. As for shooting opportunities though, he found chances hard to come by.

Tommy Conway - 7

A few positive moments for Conway who started the game brightly but perhaps took the wrong option when presented an opportunity.

Nahki Wells (subbed on, 68) - 6

He came on to try and offer something different to what Conway did. Wells didn’t have the shooting opportunities he would have liked but the attack definitely benefited after his introduction.
