Bristol City’s Andreas Weimann has been recalled to the Austrian national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifier.

The 30-year-old scored his 18th goal of the season as the Robins drew 2-2 with West Bromwich Albion, a result that kept City 18th in the Championship table.

Weimann, who hasn’t represented his country in seven years, is hoping to be involved in their play-off match with Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium on March 24.

For whoever is victor, will play either Scotland or Ukraine in a play-off this June, whilst there is a possibility they would face Scotland in a friendly if they lost.

After netting again yesterday as well as getting his ninth assist of the campaign, Pearson said: “He is a manager’s delight because whatever job you give him to do, he’ll do it.

“For instance when they changed their system in midfield and started splitting their midfield two into wider areas, Andi dropped in as a third midfield player and he worked tirelessly for the team.

“For him, 18 goals this season is, when you consider where we are in the league and you’ve got a player that has scored 18 goals, it’s clear where we need to strengthen.”

Semenyo, who has built up a formidable partnership with Weimann this year, with the joint most goal combinations in the Championship with nine, also has international prospects.

There are some doubts however on whether Antoine Semenyo will link up with the Ghana national team with the player set to link up today.

Ghana, who have yet to release their official squad, play Nigeria next Friday on March 25 and Semenyo was expected to be included for the first time after going through the process of changing nationality.

But after coming off on Tuesday with cramp and then being substituted after five minutes, there are doubts whether he will join up with the Black Stars.

“I don’t know at the moment but obviously he’s upset at the moment because he’s been called up for the Ghana squad and he’s jarred his knee so we’ll have to see how he is,” said Pearson.

“I can’t give you any more than that at the moment.”

Meanwhile teenage sensation Alex Scott, who was absent in the draw with West Bromwich Albion has been called up to the England Under-19’s squad.

Scott, who has had four goals and two assist this season, has played at right wing-back as well as central attacking midfield for City this season.

He was involved with the Under-19’s team last year, playing in seven matches, starting all but one of them, as he continues a stellar first full season of Championship football.

Ian Foster’s side will play the Republic of Ireland, Armenia and Portugal in the qualifying rounds of the Under-19 Championship.
