Bristol City player ratings: ‘Lively’ teenager impresses as ‘sloppy’ 5/10 error leads to Norwich defeat

Bristol City were eliminated from the Carabao Cup as they were defeated 1-0 by Norwich City

Bristol City were knocked out of the Carabao Cup after Przemyslaw Placheta’s strike saw Norwich City earn a 1-0 win at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.

Following an underwhelming first half of football, the match looked destined for penalties. Liam Gibbs’ effort crashed off the crossbar at the start of the second half before Placheta’s turn and finish opened the scoring. The hosts tried to hit back late on, but succumbed to a second consecutive home defeat.

Here’s how the Robins players fared...

Made a brilliant fingertip save to deny Idah in the first half and had little chance with Placheta’s strike. Made a late error with the ball at his feet but wasn’t helped by his teammate's lack of movement.

George Tanner – 6

Played some good passes in behind the Norwich backline but was caught too high up the pitch at times which allowed Placheta to run in behind and cause problems. Struggled with the Pole’s pace.

Rob Dickie – 5

Travelled into midfield and played a few well-timed progressive passes, but too often wasted possession with aimless long balls. Made a sloppy error when he was turned too easily for Placheta’s opening goal.

Kal Naismith – 6

Composed on the ball at the back and wasn’t overly troubled. Good display.

Haydon Roberts – 6

Looked to get on the ball and played a couple of passes in behind. Would’ve liked more opportunities to get forward.

Andy King – 6

Hassled well in the middle and was a composed head in a scrappy game at times.

Joe Williams – 6

Battled as usual but was untidy at times.

Mark Sykes –7

Looked to drive at the opposition defence in a more central role than usual. Didn’t get much of the ball to impose himself but looked sharp.

Harry Cornick – 6

Tracked back well but struggled to affect the game in an attacking sense.

Nahki Wells – 6

Led the line well as usual and went long spells without being involved. Hit a snapshot across goal in the first half which Long did well to react to.

Anis Mehmeti – 6

Had an early effort deflected behind and hassled the opposition’s back line when out of possession. Lacked quality in his final pass too often, but never shied away from getting on the ball.

Jason Knight (subbed on for Williams, 61’) – 6

Tried to inject some urgency into City’s play and create.

Matty James (subbed on for Sykes, 61’) – 6

Was introduced to try and control proceedings as City went in search of an equaliser but couldn’t dictate the play.

Sam Bell (subbed on for Mehmeti, 67’) – 6

Looked sharp on the left wing and tried to link up with Roberts.

Ephraim Yeboah (subbed on for Cornick, 67’) – 7

Made another lively cameo appearance. Fired a dangerous ball across goal and injected some poise to City’s approach.
