Bristol City suffered their first defeat of the season as late goals in both halves saw Birmingham City win 2-0 at Ashton Gate, while the Robins were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half.

Koji Miyoshi’s thunderous volley and Lukas Jutkiewicz’s close-range strike saw the Blues take all three points back to the Midlands, as Rob Dickie was dismissed for the hosts following two cautions either side of half time.

Was untroubled for the opening 40 minutes of the match but had an up and down few minutes late in the half. Made a brilliant save from point-blank range to deny Miyoshi, before making a mess of the resulting corner, and moments later being beaten by the Birmingham winger by a thunderous volley. Had no chance with the second goal.

George Tanner – 6

An assured display. Won his headers, dealt with Siriki Dembele’s pace well and got forward on occasion. Could have offered more support to Cornick and Sykes.

Zak Vyner – 7

Was resolute defensively and was aggressive in the challenge. Couldn’t react quickly enough when John Ruddy’s slight touch put him off of slotting into an empty net and gave the ball away cheaply which led to Miyoshi’s chance, but all in all, another good performance.

Rob Dickie – 5

Progressed into midfield with the ball at times and looked fairly comfortable at the back. Was carelessly caught out a couple of times when high up the pitch with players running at him, which led to his dismissal.

Cam Pring – 6

Gave a fair account of himself, tried to link up with Mehmeti but couldn’t get a consistent threat going down the left. Subbed for Haydon Roberts at half time.

Matty James – 6

Sat in front of the back four effectively and made several key challenges in and around his own penalty area but struggled to dictate the tempo.

Joe Williams – 6

Battled in the midfield and kept the ball moving but couldn’t dictate the play from the middle.

Jason Knight – 7

Was busy in midfield, a threat going forward and hassled the Birmingham players all game. Was unlucky not to have made a clean contact on Cornick’s first-half cross. One of the home sides better performers on the day.

Harry Cornick – 6

Linked play well on the right flank and played some threatening balls into the area, had plenty of the ball in forward positions but his final ball was too often wayward. Replaced by Mark Sykes at the break.

Sam Bell – 6

Did his best to lead the line in place of Nahki Wells, but was a far greater threat when shifted to the left flank following Wells’ arrival.

Anis Mehmeti – 6

Worked hard in and out of possession and caused Ethan Laird some problems out wide, but his final ball wasn’t up to standard.

Haydon Roberts (subbed on for Pring, 46’) – 6

Looked to get on the ball and link up with Mehmeti.

Mark Sykes (subbed on for Cornick, 46’) – 6

Got himself into some good areas down the right flank but was another who lacked end product.

Nahki Wells (subbed on for Mehmeti, 59’) – 6

Couldn’t get into the game up front and missed a brilliant chance late on.

Kal Naismith (subbed on for Williams, 59’) – 6

Kept the balling moving in the middle and looked to play forward.

Ephraim Yeboah (subbed on for Tanner, 79’) – N/A
