John Eustace says Blackburn Rovers ‘gifted’ Bristol City all five of their goals as the Robins thrashed Rovers 5-0 at Ashton Gate on Wednesday night.

A first-half brace from Tommy Conway sent the hosts into the break with a comfortable advantage, before a Nahki Wells brace and a goal from Anis Mehmeti rounded off a five star display.

“I’m really disappointed, it wasn’t like us at all,” Eustace said. “Since I’ve been here we’ve showed that fight, that character, desire and tonight we didn’t.

“We’ve gifted Bristol City all of their goals and made it an easy night for them.”

A poor error from Dominic Hyam allowed Conway to bear down on goal and convert for the opener, before Hyam brought down Mark Sykes minutes later in his own area to provide Conway his second goal from the penalty spot.

Hyam was once again at fault for City’s third, when Mehmeti stole the ball off him deep in Blackburn territory and fired home.

“We lost the game through individual errors, nothing else,” he added. “We kept going but it wasn’t good enough, we know we’ve let ourselves down tonight.”

Kyle McFadzean handled in the area for City’s second penalty of the night which Wells converted, before the defender failed to track Wells in the dying seconds which provided the Bermudan with the simplest of tap-ins.

“Goals change games, they started well and then we came into the game and had a couple of half chances where we could’ve scored, then we gifted them two goals, it is what it is.”
