City’s interest was reported back in July with BirminghamLive claiming that Stoke City, Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers, Swansea City and Sheffield United were also keen.

Talk had gone quiet about him leaving and he did find himself in first-team contention with two unused substitute appearances, but now he is on his way out.

Football Insider say that QPR, managed by Steven Gerrard’s former assistant at Villa Park and Rangers, are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign the highly-rated midfielder.

The Villains have given the green light for the player to depart on loan as he searches for first-team minutes elsewhere, hoping to build on his breakthrough at the Midlands club last season.

He is under contract until the summer of 2027 after extending his contract in March this year and is highly rated by the Premier League club.

Iroegbunam was part of the England Under-19s team which won the European Championship’s this summer with City star boy Alex Scott also in the squad that brought the trophy home.

A defensive midfielder had been thought of as a position of priority to strengthen in but Nigel Pearson’s preference is to recruit at centre-back.

Sol Bamba is a fortnight into his trial period at the Robins and he played an hour in the goalless draw with Birmingham City’s Under-21’s this week.

City are not expected to make any major signings nor will there be any departures with Alex Scott and Antoine Semenyo set to stay despite reported interest from Premier League clubs.

Academy graduate Ryley Towler who was on the periphery of the first-team could leave as a Football League move is the most likely of destinations.

Towler was on loan at National League outfit Grimsby Town last year but returned in January, making an appearance against Millwall soon after.
