Cardiff City are in pole position to sign Callum Robinson from West Bromwich Albion after a deal was reportedly agreed.

Robinson had been linked with a move to Bristol City in the last few days of the transfer window but he is instead using the Severn Bridge to get to his next destination, South Wales.

Robinson was a one-time player at Ashton Gate, making six appearances for the Robins in 2015 but he failed to find the target. In his return to Bristol, he has scored on a number of occasions to the clubs he has represented.

The 27-year-old was not in the match day squad for West Brom’s match with Wigan, albeit through injury, but speculation then was made over a possible move.

A host of clubs, including City, Burnley and Wigan Athletic, were said to be interested along with the Bluebirds, but it is the Welsh side that has won the player’s signature.

Various sources including WalesOnline have said that Cardiff and the Baggies have agreed a permanent deal for the Republic of Ireland international striker.

Steve Bruce then confirmed to the Express & Star journalist Lewis Cox that Robinson was departing The Hawthorns on a permanent basis.

“It looks as if he’s on his way, Cardiff I think is the one that’s agreed the fee. We always knew we had to balance the books, I wish him the best of luck if that happens.

It hasn’t gone so well of late for Robbo these past few weeks, but I wish him the best of luck - he’s a really smashing lad and a great pro.”

In truth, a move from City for Robinson seemed unlikely given the lack of financial resources at City’s disposal, as well as the firepower in that area.

City already have Nahki Wells and Tommy Conway who are both in-form at the minute with Andi Weimann able to play varying roles in attack. Experienced striker Chris Martin is also an option though he has had to settle for a place on the bench this season.

Antoine Semenyo has made a welcomed return to the side after recovering from a shin injury, scoring three goals in as many games after making a return.

Semenyo had been subject to much speculation over a departure with AFC Bournemouth and Crystal Palace reportedly keen, whilst he is also said to have changed his agent.

The 22-year-old however is unlikely to depart as per BristolWorld sources before the deadline is out unless an astronomical offer comes in with their £15m valuation bumped to £30m as a result of the circus that is deadline day.

Wigan Athletic winger Callum Lang has also been linked with a move as per a report from Football Insider, though Bournemouth and Watford are also in for him.

The links to Lang seems another non-starter given City do not play a system that utilises wingers, whilst they are not in a position to pay a transfer fee and so would have to consider trading.
