Nigel Pearson says that he hopes Alex Scott has not played his last game for Bristol City after some emotional post-match scenes which could act as a potential goodbye.

The Robins won 2-0 against QPR at Loftus Road thanks to goals from Mark Sykes and Sam Bell. Pearson’s side limited the Hoops attack and didn’t face a shot on target.

It secured a 14th-placed finish for City, the highest since Pearson took over and has provided a platform for next season. Pearson has assembled a squad that has blend of experience and some quality youth players from their academy.

Alex Scott - the shining example of City’s academy - despite not getting a goal or assist - put in a good performance. At the full-time whistle he was pushed closer to the away fans by teammate Andy King to receive applause. The fans chanted his iconic chant ‘His name’s Alex Scott, and he is so wonderful’ before he returned to his teammates.

City fans have been consigned to losing Scott after a tremendous campaign with an ever growing list of admirers. The 59-year-old though hopes that Scott will be at Ashton Gate next year after the teenager made the same admission last week.

In his post-match interview with BBC Radio Bristol, Pearson was asked about the post-match scenes and whether it’d be Scott’s last game and he said: “I hope not, I hope not. Tommy says he hopes it’s not Scotty’s last as well because he shares a flat with him. He’ll be paying the full rate.”

“We were pulling his leg a little bit.”

The 19-year-old has most of the Premier League interested in him with Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool the latest clubs to take an interest. Leicester City and Wolves are also said to be keen, however they have yet to receive an official bid for him.

Scott - who has been admired by Jack Grealish and Pep Guardiola this season - won the Young Player of the Year award in the Championship and is regarded as the EFL’s best young property. He has been praised for how he has performed despite the uncertainty about his future.

Pearson added: “He’s just a very mature young man and it must be difficult for a player of his age to be able to deal with the amount of speculation and still perform in the way that he does.”

“He’s a really talented player and we’re very happy to have him and hopefully he’ll be here again next season.”

Pearson was also asked about Jay Dasilva in the same question, but did not respond in his answer, instead focusing on Scott. Dasilva was not in the match-day squad, but received an ovation from the supporters. The former Chelsea prospect is out-of-contract in the summer and his future is uncertain, with Pearson revealing that offers had been made for those not contracted next season.
