More than 100 homes are without power after overhead cables came down in Bristol - an incident which has also led to the closure of a busy road junction.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service and utility workers attended the junction of Westerleigh Road and Blackhorse Lane in Emerson Green at around 7.20pm.

The junction was taped off and motorists were forced to take diversions around the scene.

A photograph shared on social media showed an overhead cable had come down next to where the two roads meet. One person on social media commented: “Avoid the westerleigh road/ Blackhorse Road junction, fallen cables!”

National Grid displayed the incident on its power cut map. It said the matter was picked up at 7.24pm, and that 109 properties were without power at 10.30pm. Properties impacted were in the BS16 postcode.

The estimate given for when power will be restored is 1am, National Grid said.
