Great Bristol Run 2023: All the road closures and timings for 10k and half marathon

Bristol hosts The Great Bristol Run against this Sunday - an event which will see thousands of runners hit the roads of the city centre as they take on three routes; the family run, the 10k and the half marathon.

The huge event requires the use of roads and so many in the area will be impacted. Any cars left parked on the roads could be uplifted and moved to Portwall Lane car park or the SS Great Britain car park.

A spokesperson for the event said: “During the road closure vehicular access will not be possible. Unless otherwise stated or pre-agreed. We appreciate that road closures can cause some inconvenience but your cooperation would be appreciated in assisting the city of Bristol to host this prestigious sporting event.”

The Great Bristol Run will begin at 9am, but the rolling programme of road closures will begin at 4am, and will take place in coloured waves which have been split into seven zones:

Zone 1 - 4am to 5pm: Anchor Road

Zone 2 - 6.30am to 1pm: Access to Dock Gate Lane, Pembroke Place, Rownham Mead, Charles Place, Oakfield Rd, Merchants Road will be restricted. Vehicles will be permitted to exit streets and drive towards Jacobs Wells Roundabout on Hotwell Road until 0830. Hotwell Rd will remain open to traffic at all times on the inbound to city side of road, towards Jacobs Wells Roundabout.

Zone 3 - 6am to 2.30pm: Hotwell Road at Bennett Way to A4162 Sylvan Way incl A4 Portway and Bridge Valley Road. Residents with property’s located on The Portway between Sylvan Way and Riverleaze are able to use a vehicle lane installed for the event. Residents are permitted to enter at the Sylvan Way junction on to The Portway and exit on to Riverleaze. Residents are asked not to park cars on the road to ensure access can be maintained.

Zone 4 - 5.30am to 2pm: Avon Crescent, McAdam Way, Brunel Lock Road, Brunswick Place, Cumberland Rd, Wapping Rd, Gas Ferry Rd, Hanover Place, Mardyke Ferry Rd, Smeaton Rd, Ashton Ave, Commercial Road. Residents will be able to exit until 0830, after this time vehicle movement is prohibited, unless prior arrangements have been made with the event organisers. If you require your car between 0830 and 1400 we recommend you park outside of the road closure area.

Zone 5 - 8.45am onwards: The Grove, Prince Street, Wapping Road, Queen Square, Welsh Back, Little King Street,Queen Charlotte Street.

Zone 6 - 5.30am to 3pm: Redcliffe Hill (inbound traffic), Redcliffe Way from Redcliffe Bascule Bridge towards Temple Circus, Redcliffe St, Three Queen’s Lane, St Thomas St, Victoria Street, Counterslip, Queen Street, Castle Street, Lower Castle Street, Broad Weir, Newgate, Wine Street, High Street

Zone 7 - 7am to 3.30pm: Baldwin St, Marsh St, Broad Quay Colston Ave, St Augustine’s Parade, Park Street/ College Green (access only as far as Anchor Rd and the Marriott Hotel), Lewin’s Mead, Christmas Street and Quay Street .
