Fishponds cash machine explosion: Police issue statement on ‘humongous bang’

Avon and Somerset Police say they are investigating a cash machine explosion - and are appealing for any witnesses to get in contact.

As reported by Bristol World, police and fire crews attended the incident in Fishponds Road in Fishponds at around 4am. They discovered a cash machine badly damaged in an explosion.

The noise from the explosion was described as an ‘humongous bang’ by Claire Moore who was staying above the nearby Golden Lion pub. Others said they heard if from as far away as Warmley.

The road was initially closed before the cordon was scaled back to the pavement where the stand-along cash machine is located, next to a bus stop and in front of Lodge House.

Metal scraps were on the floor along with debris from the explosion. Now, Avon and Somerset Police have revealed that a number of parked cars were also damaged.

A spokesperson said: “Police were called to Fishponds Road at about 4am following the incident. Avon Fire and Rescue Service also attended.

“Officers found a cash machine had been damaged, along with a number of parked cars in the vicinity.

“A scene remains in place currently, but the road is open. Enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage, are ongoing.

“Witnesses, or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist our enquiries, is asked to call 101 and quote reference number 5223106495.”
