Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to a huge fire next to woodland in Oldland Common this evening (May 15), just before 6pm. The blaze involved an outbuilding next to Siston Brook, between Court Road and California Road.

As well as fire crews tackling the flames, Avon and Somerset Police closed off Court Road and California Road. At around 8.15pm, the closures were lifted after the fire was extinguished.

People took to social media to report the fire was happening and share their concern for the damaged caused. It’s not clear yet as to how the fire started and an investigation will now begin.

Bristol World contacted Avon Fire and Rescue Service. At 8.15pm, a spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.54pm - two crews from Kingswood and Bedminster attended the fire which involved an outbuilding, no persons were reported inside.

“Two firefighters with breathing apparatus tackled the fire and a thermal imaging camera was used to locate a cylinder and remove it to cool it down.

“The fire is out and crews are at the scene now dampening it down.”
